For the first session of the new year we explored potato printing using a variety of long sweet potatoes, large baking potatoes and smaller main crop. I’d carved several potatoes beforehand and took plastic knives in case anyone wanted to design their own free hand or use small biscuit cutters to speed up the process. After first experimenting on paper, the final design was applied to calico fabric.
The group really enjoyed the session but suggested that it would have been better to have all potatoes pre-cut. They’re a great group for giving me honest and helpful feedback and I’ll certainly bear it in mind when I repeat the session elsewhere.
