I spent the weekend of 15/16 October at Moulton Mill, near Spalding for Woadfest 2017. The festival will be an annual event at the Mill following my Heritage Lottery funded collaboration ‘The Blue Mill Project’ about heritage woad growing in Lincolnshire.

As a result of the HLF funding for research and skill sharing, the Mill is now home to a permanent woad exhibition on the second floor.

This year I delivered two family drop in activities; printed windsocks on the Saturday and a large woven woad banner on the Sunday which will be displayed in the Mill.

Many thanks to everyone who visited over the weekend; many travelling from far and wide to visit the tallest windmill in the country, participate in the arts activities, brave the steep stairs on the Mill tour and enjoy cake or lunch in the wonderful cafe – see you next year when it will be bigger and bluer!photo-4

All ages contributed from primary school to experienced textile artists

You’ll need to visit the Mill to see the finished banner….this is the ‘before a day of weaving’ photo!
