Arts 4 Dementia – ‘early stage dementia awareness training for art facilitators

I recently coordinated and marketed the following artist training for Lincs Artist Forum members with Arts 4 Dementia from London.  Funding was secured through Spalding Ward Councillors and the event took place at the South Holland Centre on Thurs 9 October.

Very positive feedback was received by all those that attended: 12 Lincolnshire artists and 3 dementia carers.  We were joined for lunch by Nick Worth, Angela Newton, Rachel Rowett and Sally Harrison.

Following the training, I will be collaborating with another artist to deliver a pilot project of art activities for those living with dementia and their carers.   The sessions will offer high quality participatory art opportunities for social interaction and learning new skills. By being part of a group, participants will benefit from the mutual support and understanding of others in similar situations, helping reduce rural and social isolation and help remove the stigma that often accompanies dementia.
